    ePlus Adds Two Electronic Procurement Patents To Its Patent Portfolio

    HERNDON, VA – ePlus inc. (Nasdaq NM: PLUS – news), a leading provider of Enterprise Cost Management solutions, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded it two new patents in the electronic procurement field covering aspects of "ad hoc" or "special item" requisitions. These two patents enhance ePlus’s existing portfolio of patents in the electronic procurement field.

    The first patent, U.S. Patent No. 6,892,185 entitled "Information Translation Communication Protocol," relates to an electronic procurement system that enables a user to create a structured "special item request" to requisition an item that is not found in a search of available electronic supplier catalogs. The system can automatically identify potential suppliers to fulfill the order without human intervention. Information concerning the requisitioned item may also be added to the appropriate electronic catalogs in accordance with predetermined rules relating to various characteristics of the item so that the item can be located when buyers conduct subsequent searches of the electronic catalogs and "special item" or "ad hoc" requisition is no longer needed.

    The second patent, U.S. Patent No. 7,047,211 entitled "Information Translation Communication Protocol," also expedites and enhances processes associated with "ad hoc" or "special item requisitions." This patent is directed to a process to transmit requests for quotations to multiple potential suppliers to supply the ad hoc item and receive information responsive to the request for quotation in a standardized format so that the system can automatically select the best supplier for fulfillment of an order for the ad hoc item without human intervention. The appropriate electronic supplier catalog can then be updated with information about the requisitioned item so that the ad hoc requisition process is not needed for subsequent orders for the item.
